WHO WE ARE

Our vision: A world in which all children reach their full potential.

Our mission

We provide care and life tools to children whose overall development is compromised by difficult living conditions, and we influence practices by disseminating the community social pediatrics model.

Our values

  • Commitment
  • Respect
  • Cooperation
  • Creativity

The practice of community social pediatrics identifies children whose development is at risk because of difficult living conditions. An in-depth assessment is needed to screen for, diagnose and treat the complex health problems often encountered in this type of pediatrics, such as developmental, learning and behavioural disorders, and mental health problems.

Our social medicine approach, based on the respect of children’s rights, helps achieve equity, so that the children who are most affected can have the same chance as other children to develop to their full potential.

Message from the Director General

We are very pleased to present our annual report, which shines the spotlight on the achievements of our teams of professionals and volunteers. The work of caring for and providing life tools to children whose development is compromised by difficult living conditions requires the support of partners and investors who believe in the potential of each child and the need to respect their fundamental rights.

With your help, we have been able to fulfil our mission and continue innovating to influence how the needs of the most vulnerable families in our society are met.

We know that this is no small task, since more than one in every five children is among the poorest citizens in our society—even when the economy is doing well! With this in mind, as of 2018-2019, the Foundation will be working harder than ever to implement the following six strategies.

  1. Help fund more community social pediatrics teams that care for and provide life tools to vulnerable children and children from Aboriginal communities.
  2. Act as a community social pediatrics leader to influence how the needs of children whose development is compromised by difficult living conditions are met.
  3. Continue certifying community social pediatrics centres to monitor the quality of care and services while also developing a professional accreditation program.
  4. Continue innovating in social development so that our care and services model better incorporates knowledge stemming from research into children’s overall health and the content of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
  5. Take part in training the next generation of specialists through continuous professional development, either in person or remotely, and by developing a university-level certificate program bringing together the faculties of medicine, law and social work.
  6. Play an active role in developing a community social pediatrics knowledge hub.

On behalf of the children and families we assist every day, we sincerely thank you for continuing to support us.
